Emerald Isle, NC 18 miles from Beaufort, NC
Emerald
Isle is between mileposts 15 and 21 at the western end of Bogue Banks.
Originally settled by nomadic Indians and whalers, the Emerald Isle
area was largely uninhabited until the 1950s. Now noted for its lavish,
family-oriented beaches, the resort town offers several miles of accommodations
from luxury oceanfront condominiums to spacious beach houses, seaside
and soundside.
Kids enjoy the summer entertainment areas with miniature golf, bumper cars, several waterslides, a batting cage and more. Emerald Plantation Shopping Center offers a movie theater, grocery and specialty shopping. Interesting shopping abounds along NC 58 and its side streets, and the exploration is half the fun. A soundside marina with charter boats is convenient to take you fishing or for watersports equipment rentals. And an exciting variety of restaurants makes dining out another adventure on the island.
Each March, Emerald Isle hosts a St. Patrick's Day Festival. August brings the exciting Sea Kayak Festival at the Island Rigs/Regional Access Area. Autumn is the time that happy anglers are in or near Bogue Inlet. That's because the Big Ones are happy there, too.
